Ever since the February 22, 2014 illegal coup of the legitimately elected Ukrainian government and the ouster of Ukrainian president, Viktor Yanuyovch, the western media has been demonizing and ridiculing Russian President, Vladimir Putin.
But what do we really know about Mr. Putin? While it is true that Mr. Putin was in the service of the USSR’s KGB from ‘75 to ‘91 before he retired from the KGB to enter politics in his hometown of St. Petersburg, does that mean that he’s secretly attempting to jump-start the old USSR?
It doesn’t look that way, as the new Russia has aggressed upon no one.
So why does it look like the US is picking a fight with Russia? But thanks to a released recording of a phone conversation between Assistant US Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia, Victoria Nuland and U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, Geoffrey Pyat, it definitely appears that the US has been seriously meddling in the governmental affairs of Ukraine. In December 2013, Ms. Nuland told a group at the International Business Conference sponsored by the US-Ukrainian Foundation, that the US had ‘invested’ more than $5 billion and five years worth of work and preparation in “achieving what she called Ukraine’s ‘European aspirations.”
Since the fall of the former Soviet Union there’s been no indication that the new Russia has attempted to take over any nation, let along any of her neighbors. So, it is acceptable for the United States to do such things while the western media attacks Russia and Mr. Putin?
Historian Michael S. King joins us to provide some background on the man that many are saying is the greatest statesman of our time. Will he help defend the pro-Russians that reside in eastern Ukraine? Will he come to the aid of the Crimeans that are now under threat of having their water shut off?
