Topic: Our regular guest, Robert Morningstar is with us tonight. Robert recently came across some FBI files about singer, Frank Sinatra, which opens up the conversation about Old Blue Eye's ties to the Mob.
There are a handful of things that Americans just LOVE. We love food, sports, and crime stories – from all the way back to the 1932 film Scarface with Paul Muni to, Edward G. Robinson movies, The Godfather series, Goodfellas, Casino, Boardwalk Empire, and more. Mob stories are as popular as American westerns.
But there was always a swirl of mystery concerning Sinatra’s ties to The Mafia. And then there were Frank’s ties to John F. Kennedy. There was definitely an interesting intersection between the lives of John F. Kennedy and Frank Sinatra that very colorful.
Robert is always looking for vetted documentation whenever he researches a controversial subject. Frank Sinatra, America's beloved crooner, is a very controversial figure. There has been much speculation about Frank Sinatra's possible links to the Mob. The Freedom of Information Act allows many an American Citizen and Researcher Journalist to have old government and FBI documents released in the interest of truth. "The character Johnny Fontane in the book and film The Godfather is widely believed to be based on Frank Sinatra, portraying him as a man whose career was helped by links to organized crime, and Sinatra was furious with Mario Puzo for creating this character.[2
When allegations about Sinatra's tough reputation were aired in public, Sinatra was known to react angrily. In 1976, Chicago Daily News columnist Mike Royko wrote a column referencing Sinatra's "tough reputation". Sinatra responded with a letter Royko subsequently published with his column, telling Royko, "regarding my 'tough reputation' you and no one else can prove that allegation". Sinatra went on to tell Royko that "female gossip columnists" had spread those rumors about him, calling the columnists "garbage dealers I call hookers" and Royko a "pimp" for spreading the information.[24]"
